A rally fun toy for Victorian children and now a rare item. The publication date of this set is usually given as 1890, the publisher was Jos.It is a box with three folding chromolithographed paper and cardboard. Each with a different room: the parlor, bedroom and kitchen. There are slits in some places where you can insert a person or an object to "populate"/ decorate a room. Furthermore, if they have a support attached you can stand them in front of a room. There is a number of die cut, loose figures and objects, most stored in yellow envelopes which someone added to this set. There is also a sheet, partly used, with backing for the figures and objects, to fashion them into things that can stand on their own. You will also find a printed sheet (Gothic letter) with a German. Poem written about this toy. Measurements: the box is about 14" x 11" x 1 3/4. Each triptych, open, 25 3/4" x 9 3/4".
The triptychs are bound in a burgundy. Some figures have tapes to keep their body parts in pace, like wrists and heads, these tapes are on the back sides usually. There is a free standing table where a white tape runs through the front.Several of the loose figures are missing heads or hands. Box damaged, two corners of the cover came open see picture.
