Super-cool early 1980s Action / Fantasy / Sci-Fi toy line and Galoob's answer to the Masters Of The Universe / MOTU line by Mattel and the Dungeons and Dragons toy line by. LJN LJN's later Thundercats toy line was also clearly responding to this 1980s era niche market for Action / Fantasy monsters, elves, goblins, aliens, castles, swords, and space, etc. I honestly dont know, and the relative rarity of specimens from this toy line have made it difficult to compare to other examples.
I will say, however, that the spring-loaded launchers both work very well. The removable wings and the tailpiece are here, intact, and look great- including the stickers on the wingtips (See Pictures). Others have begun to lift or crinkle at the edges from ageor from use/play wear. Nonetheless, all of the stickers appear to be here, adhered, and looking more or less presentable. The grey plastic of the body is not faded or yellowed as is common in the light grey plastic of a lot of the space toys of the 1980s, although theres some general dinginess and stubborn dirt / markings that I havent been able to wipe off easily. Fairly subtle, but it should be noted (See Pictures). There are storage compartment toward the rear of the vehicle, and the molded plastic boosters from the rear look cool. As I said earlier, I cant say with confidence whether or not this toy is complete, but what I can say is that it is a cool specimen from this fairly rare and under-appreciated toy line. Galoob produced a lot of great stuff in the 1980s, but I feel like they were always considered to be like Dr. Pepper as compared to Mattel or Kenners Pepsi or Coca-Cola. The intelligent and wildly imaginative designs of the vintage Blackstar toy line have certainly attracted the affection of collectors and those appreciative of this sub-genre of Action Figures and adventure toys from this Golden Age in the 1980s.
