Only trace remnants of belt decal remain. Wooden segments of arms and legs show just trace aging/wear. Fine overall but displays much above grade, retaining strong eye appeal. Doll can be posed for upright display.

The very first Superman figure and a nice example as partially restored. Billing himself as The World's Foremost Superman Collector back in the 1980s, Danny Fuchs amassed an amazing collection over the decades, beginning in 1962 with Superman comic books before quickly expanding the scope of his collecting to include merchandise of all types featuring the Man of Steel. With a special focus on Superman paper items - especially promotional and advertising items - some of Fuchs favorite pieces date to Superman's early years, with items produced during World War II having a special place in his heart. Of note, he ranks the Ideal Superman doll, Marx wind-up airplane and the Daisy Krypto Ray Gun among his most loved pieces.

Many items from his collection were featured in Harry Matetsky's seminal book. The Adventures of Superman Collecting. With some of those very same book examples being offered in this and future auctions. This figure, standing 13 inches tall, is considered the first superhero action figure. The figure is known to have some crazing, paint chipping, and toning due to age. Superman - Wood and Composition Jointed Doll (Ideal, 1940). The very first Superman action figure! The figure is 13 tall, with a composition head and upper body, and wooden arms, legs, and midsection. Our Superman Doll's paint is in excellent condition. The 85-year-old cape has faded over time and came undone from the estate sale to us. There is a slight wood cracking in the doll's neck which is caused by the natural separation of wood fibers due to changes in moisture content, temperature, and drying processes. It is a normal occurrence that is not a sign of poor quality or a structural defect, but rather a result of the wood reaching equilibrium with its environment. The process involves uneven shrinkage as the wood dries, which puts stress on the fibers and causes them to split.
