FIREBALL XL5 MPC PLAY SET 1964 COMPLETE with BOX-FIGURES and ACCESSORIES

Vintage 1964, Fireball XL5 Playset, made by MPC. Layset includes the XL5 spaceship, original box, complete set of figures that came with this set, missiles, Jetmobiles and some of the ships original decals. This was my favorite toy when I was a kid had I have collected several large and small versions of this playset over the years. XL5 spaceship is complete and including miniature Steve and Venus figures and jetmobiles.

Working sliding enter/exit roof door for the small seated figures and jetmobiles. The two side yellow missile launcher doors are present with the (often missing) working spring launchers... Mounting pins on each door are undamaged.

Two original plastic red missiles are included. Original decals have been replaced with reproductions.

Some of the original d. Drop down landing gear support that still works. TWO ITEMS THAT ARE ALMOST ALWAYS DAMAGED ON THESE SHIPS ARE THE CANOPY WINDOW BRACES AND FIRERBALL JR. ALL (8) EIGHT WING BOSTER ROCKETS ARE PRESENT AND THE CANOPY BRACES ARE UNDAMAGED! Photo (9) showing the large horizontal rear wings show some spots on top of each wing (they are not holes).

Last photo is of the left side lower Junior wing. You will notice that it is not damaged but has some warpage. About half of XL5 ships that I have owned over the years have had this manufacturing condition.

After all in 1964 this was just a toy not a collectors item. This set included the larger Steve, Dr. Venus, Zoonie the Lazoon, Commander Zero, Professor Matic and. All in excellent condition with Robert The Robot's antenna still present. The original box is solid with all end flaps present and undamaged.

Pretty good for a 57 year old cardboard box. Colors are good but white areas of box have turned a tan color from age.

In Photo 10 you will see. Some stains and a gouge in cardboard above XL5 Type and what looks like pencil holes poked around the MPC Logo. Photo 11 shows before and after repairs to end flap with Steve Zodiac's face. There were pencil holes and a crease fold across Steve's right eye.

I had that repaired to make more displayable. 57 year old plastic is very brittle. And I would not open and close XL5 Junior's roof door as you may end up damaging the canopy window braces... I have done my best to give photos and accurate descriptions of this vintage toy and box.
